    • Soloist: $85
    • Duo: $120
    • Trio: $180
    • Late Fee: $20 per dancer

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    No refunds will be given after the registration deadline.  Full or partial refunds may be granted prior to that time upon the discretion of the UDF Director. If injury or death of a family member prevents a dancer from attending once registered, a refund may be granted or a full or partial credit for the next UDF season, as decided by the UDF Director.  Please email all requests to:  angi@utahdancefest.com.  No refunds or credits will be issued later than a week prior to the event.

    COMPETITION RULES

    MUSIC: Participants may select the music of their choice, not exceeding 3 minutes. NEW in 2017:  We are asking all participants to email us their music.  Please email to:  music@utahdancefest.com with DANCER NAME(S) & STAGE COMP in the subject line at least 2 weeks prior to the show.  Please have a representative at or very near the sound table during your routine in case back up is needed.  Back up may be a CD or a device.

    COSTUMES/PROPS: Costumes should be designed to fit the style of the dance and be family appropriate. Props must be carried on/off the floor by dancer(s) and time limit includes carrying them on & off.

    AWARDS: Every soloist will place as Queen/King or Attendant, and duo/trios will place 1st, 2nd, etc. Queens/Kings will receive a tiara/crown, sash/medal, and other gifts. Every dancer will receive their own UDF figurine trophy. Overall awards will also be presented.

    STAGE AND PRACTICE TIME: The Logan High Auditorium is one of the largest stages in the state.  It’s dimensions are 72′ wide x 32-44′ deep with an arched front. Please practice accordingly.  There will be no practice time on the stage the day of the competition.  If our registration exceeds the capacity of one stage, we will build an additional stage in a gym down the hall, in which case the Novice and possibly Intermediate teams would compete there.

    CATEGORIES & DIVISIONS

    Solo/Duo/Trio participants will be divided into categories based on these four criteria, in the following order of precedence:

    1. NUMBER OF DANCERS
      • Solo: 1 dancer
      • Duo: 2 dancers
      • Trio: 3 dancers
    2. ABILITY LEVEL
      • Novice: beginning level dancer(s)
      • Intermediate: average ability for their age
      • Advanced: above average, competition experience, polished technique
      • Pre-Professional: has won first place one or more times in Advanced categories
    3. AGE OF DANCERS
      • Soloist: dancers age at time of competition
      • Duo/Trio: age division as determined by average age of dancers
        • Tiny:  ages 6 & under
        • Mini:  ages 7-9
        • Junior:  ages 10-12
        • Teen:  ages 13-14
        • Senior:  ages 15 & up
    4. STYLE OF DANCERS
      • Jazz
      • Hip Hop
      • Lyrical
      • Contemporary/Modern
      • Ballet
      • Tap

    PLEASE NOTE

    ABILITY LEVELS: Some competitions distinguish ability levels based upon number of hours of dance per week or upon skills or tricks performed. At Utah Dance Fest we believe that ability level is not so objectively defined. It’s not what skills you perform, but how you perform them that determines your ability level. Likewise, the number of hours danced per week does not necessarily equate to the dancers ability on the dance floor. If you are unsure of your placement please seek the advice of your director or choreographer.

    CREATING CATEGORIES: Our Solo/Duo/Trio categories will typically have between 3-8 entries per category based first on ability and age. If there are more than six in a category, we may split categories based on style of dance. Duo’s and Trio’s will always be combined. Divisions may be expanded or combined at the discretion of UDF Director. In creating fair categories, we are limited to the honest information that you provide.

    SUBMITTING MULTIPLE ENTRIES: Dancers are free to enter as many categories as they wish, and we will do our best to get them in different categories. If more than one entry has to be in the same category, an adjudicated award will be given for each additional performance. A figurine will be presented for each entry.

    WINNERS MUST ADVANCE: After taking 1st place in any ability division at any comparable competition, you must enter the next level higher. Dancers who violate this rule may be disqualifed at the discretion of the UDF director.

    ENTERING THE WRONG ABILITY LEVEL: Dancers who are decided by the judges to be entered in TOO LOW ABILITY LEVEL may receive up to a 5 point deduction per judge! Please be fair and honest in your placement.

    FAMILY FRIENDLY DEDUCTIONS: Utah Dance Fest is a family friendly event. Deductions will be taken if costumes, music or choreography are deemed inappropriate for a family audience.

    TEAM ENTRY FEES

    FEES: Each team will pay a registration fee per dancer, per performance.

    • Team Fee: $29 per dancer, regardless of size (no spectator entrance fees)
    • Late Fee: 10% of team registration total

    COMPETITION RULES

    TIME LIMITS: Time limits are based on size of team. Accurate times must be given on registration form. Time must include entrances and exits and getting props on and off floor.

    • X-Small and small teams: 3min
    • Medium teams : 5min
    • Large teams: 7min
    • X-Large teams: 10min

    JUDGING: We go to great lengths to hire mature, professional, and caring judges who will provide you with positive, helpful critiques of your performances. Teams will be judged upon their performance in the following areas:

    • Costume/Appearance: 10pts
    • Technique/Execution: 30pts
    • Choreography/Routine: 30pts
    • Showmanship: 30pts

    AWARDS: Each team dancer will receive their very own participation figurine. Also, all competing teams will receive a UDF figurine trophy for a Platinum, High Gold, Gold, High Silver or Silver performance – based on their total score. Grand Champion, Best of Show and Overall awards, judges awards, and Studio Awards will be given and cash, certificates, and special gifts will be presented. Grand Champion awards are based on AGE and Overall Awards are based on team ability and size. All judges decisions are final.

    MUSIC: NEW in 2017! We are asking all participants to email us their music.  Please email to: music@utahdancefest.com at least 2 weeks prior to the show. Make sure each song is named with Show # and Song Name and subject of email is your STUDIO NAME.    You may send in one or multiple emails.  Please have a representative at or very near the sound table during every routine in case back up is needed.  Back up may be a CD or a device.

    PHOTOS IN PROGRAM: If you would like a photo of your team(s) in our souvenir program, please email digital files to us at angi@utahdancefest.com. Actual photographs may be mailed but digital is preferred.  Please include the caption you would like under each photo. Cost is $10 per photo.

      • Senior: 15 years and up
    3. STYLE OF DANCERS
      • Jazz - Routine consists mostly of jazz
      • Hip Hop - Including hip hop, funk, street
      • Ballet - Lyrical or classical
      • Contemporary - Modern and/or contemporary
      • Show/Production - Routines of all ages with theme
      • Novelty/Musical Theatre - Thematic routine - with or without props - any style dancing
      • Tap - Any routine with tap or clogging shoes
      • Open - Enter any style you wish
    4. SIZE CATEGORIES
      • X-Small Teams: 4-9 dancers
      • Small Teams: 10-15 dancers
      • Medium Teams: 16-29 dancers
      • Large Teams: 30+ dancers

Dear Dance Directors

Welcome to the Utah Dance Fest Difference! For over twenty years, we have been honored to host incredible displays of talent at our events, and we expect no less for our next season of outstanding competitions at Utah Dance Fest!

We care about each dancer at Utah Dance Fest and our greatest concern is the quality of the overall experience for each of them and for our studio directors who make competition experiences possible for their dancers. As a former competitive dancer, and now as UDF Director, I go to great lengths to help dancers maintain a positive, growing experience at our competitions.

The Battle of the Best at Utah Dance Fest is our newest event and we are SO EXCITED about it!  It is the most unique and electric event you will ever attend.  It is by invitation only (let us know ASAP if you are interested in being invited!) and it’s a ONE DAY, ONE WINNER event.  The 10 top studios bring their 10 best routines to compete for one GIANT $2,500 cash prize!  Please go to our Battle page on our website to read all about it - it is absolutely an event you won’t want to miss!

Our Stage Competition is one of the classiest and well-run competitions in the regions.  At Utah Dance Fest, every solo/duo/trio participant will place within their category and receive one of our famous Utah Dance Fest figurine trophies.  Teams are adjudicated and receive Platinum, High Gold, Gold, High Silver and Silver rankings and each team receives a figurine.  Overall Awards and judges awards are also given both days, and a Grand Champion Best of Show award is  determined by a Mini Battle at the end of each day.

OUR UDF REGISTRATION DEADLINES THIS SEASON ARE:

  • Stage Competition: January 15th
  • Battle of the Best: February 15th

A $20 credit will be given to those who attend our Floor or Stage Competitions who email us before December 31 to let us know which competition(s) they plan to attend and their approximate number of team entries, solo/duo/trio entries and team participants.

Battle Studios must let us know they are interested in being invited to The Battle by August 31 of the year prior to the event.  Invitations will be personally  delivered in September and deposits are due by the end of October.

Please plan now to register on time so that we can have the time we need to prepare the organized, quality competitions you’ve come to expect from Utah Dance Fest. A 10% late fee will be charged on any registrations accepted after these deadlines. We’re sorry – no exceptions.

DANCE PHOTO CONTEST INFO

ENTRY FEE: $40

Late Fee: $15

Any dancer may compete for a place on the cover of our Utah Dance Fest program by entering our Dance Photo Contest.

To participate, we need a HIGH RESOLUTION DIGITAL STILL OR ACTION SHOT – preferably one showing your unique skills.  You may either register online and upload your photo there or you may register by mailing a registration form and check to us and then emailing a digital photo.  Make sure your email has the participants name, age and studio and the date check was mailed.  And make sure your photo is in ORIGINAL HIGH RESOLUTION FORMAT so your photo will look the best it can for our judges, in our program, and in the video display at the competition.

Dance Photo participants will be featured in our souvenier UDF program and the winner will be featured on the cover. 1st – 4th place winners will be announced, and all participants will receive a UDF figurine trophy. Judging will be done by our Official Utah Dance Fest Photographer.

PLEASE NOTE:  This will take the place of our previous Covermodel headshot contest.

DIRECTIONS TO LOGAN HIGH SCHOOL

The address of the Logan High School is 162 West 100 South, Logan.  When coming into Logan from the North or South you will be on Main Street.  Turn west on 100 South and Logan High is just a block and a half west of Main Street.  Parking is limited as some of the school is still under construction, but parking on the street is allowed all around the school.  Follow No Parking signs in business lots as many are diligent booters!
